2/25/19; Week 02 "Is the Great American Teacher Dead?

I am grateful to learn knowledge through people who undoubtedly have always been inspired to give us clarity, and guide for those who have embarked on the difficult but wonderful world of education. How certain are the words of Plutarch (2001) "Education is more than just exposing people to the facts. It is an acquisitional process that without the proper delivery system, tend to fall flat"

I believe that our role as teachers is primarily to recognize how important it is to follow this profession with passion, dedication, and knowing that we have a great responsibility to create and establish a warm, positive, inspired, meaningful and transformative environment for our futures learner. Something that got my attention a lot is what Professor William W. Purkey said, "The most important aspect of a teacher is to be a romantic." This sounds positive teacher-student relationship. Maybe we achieve this through an inviting environment. I remember when I was in grade 11 in middle school, my class was "Spanish" and my teacher taught me to express my ideas, my thoughts in a safe way, even with my mistakes, I always found in her eyes the approval and comprehension that encouraged me to keep improving.

"Research shows that one needs to grab students attention at the very beginning of a lesson (Medina, 2008). I believe that motivation and attention are fundamental in the classroom. This depends on how hooked we will get our students to remain and most importantly "learn." There is nothing more boring than a class where only the teacher speaks and speaks, and the students listen and from time to time they must answer some questions. I like the 10-minute rule. Students do not necessarily have to change their activity, I think it would be a good idea to ask students after the lesson or after 10 minutes of teaching to get up, and then in pairs of two, they would share some point that most interested them, and why? of the lesson.

Another thing that I would also like to emphasize about this article is what Medina mentions, "The acquisition of knowledge is profoundly impacted by the emotional environment in which it takes place" I believe that a student develops and learns better in a warm and positive climate. This helps students gain a sense of security and personal self-esteem.

Undoubtedly, there is much to learn, and all the advice received in this document will help me prepare to become a better teacher. I will try to use these tips right now in my classroom.

I leave a question to you: How would you use the 10-minute rule in your classroom? I would love to know some ideas.

Thanks

Sandy
